The East Ramapo Teachers Association is the exclusive collective bargaining agent for approximately 810 teachers, guidance counselors, library media specialists, psychologists, reading specialists, interscholastic coaches, club advisors and other professionals who work with the students in the East Ramapo Central School District in non-administrative positions.
ERTA represents its members in all matters of bargaining, grievance, terms and conditions of employment, salary and compensation, and any issue which relates to the collective bargaining agreement including:
- development and implementation of curriculum and education programs
- assignment, transfer and promotion
- teaching and teaching facilities
- teacher protection and student discipline
- teaching load and school day
- teacher evaluation and records
- absences and leaves of absence
- probation and tenure
- insurance benefits
ERTA’s mission is to promote the professional, economic, and social interests of the members, to improve the educational environment, to further positive relationships between teachers and the community and to encourage cooperation with other educational and professional organizations.
Members of ERTA are also members of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), a federation of more than 1,200 local unions, affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA) and part of organized labor – the AFL-CIO – and of Education International, with more than 20 million members world wide.
